This is my second time riding across America with the Hopkins 4K For Cancer. My first trip in 2004 made a powerful impression on my spirit.

Because of the Hopkins 4K, I now see life and humanity in a much different light. I never knew such a positive side of humanity. I was afraid that raising $3,000 was a responsibilty beyond my reach, but the effort put forth by my family and friends added up to over $5,000! All along our way, we were treated so generously, even when we weren't expecting it--like in Ohio, when it seemed like we might not eat lunch until a farmer offered a fresh hunk of cheese, beef jerky, strawberries, and $20 out of his own pocket. I feel that the ideals of the Hopkins 4K drew out the best in many people, and I am excited to be a part of it again!

In addition to my beloved Hope Lodgers, I am dedicating this journey to
my Aunt Suzie, who recently overcame breast cancer; to my grandfather, who passed away from prostate cancer; and to my childhood friend Thomas Heery, who was born with a cancerous tumor in his stomach, and is now a master ski instructor in the Swiss Alps. I would also like to thank Ryan Hanley and Leah Blom for having the vision and the determination to establish such a remarkable program.

Future Goals:
When Lance Armstrong was sick in the hospital, a fellow cancer patient told him, "You don't know it yet, but we're the lucky ones." As devastating as cancer is, it can also clarify the important things in life that too many people do not appreciate. My goal for this summer, in addition to spreading hope, is to spread the simple ideals of love, family, and support to cancer patients and non-cancer patients alike. My goal in life is to make a difference and to never lose sight of what's important.
