When I hear the word ‘cancer’ my mind immediately conjures up images of pain, helplessness, vulnerability and death. It’s been over two years since I watched my Aunt Pammy die at the unforgiving hands of cancer and I’m finally ready to fight back against the ugly disease that has stolen thousands of other aunts, uncles, mothers and fathers from their loved ones. I strongly believe that proactive measures like early detection screenings and increased research funding are essential tools of empowerment and I can’t think of a better way to spend my summer than bringing education and inspiration to families from Baltimore to San Francisco!
Future goals: After graduating this spring with my BSN in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University, I plan to work in community health clinics for underserved women and children.
