I am riding this year because I want to help people, I want to make a statement, and I want to do things that most people only dream of doing…I want to make a difference, and I want to change the world. I believe that Hopkins4K is a step in the right direction.

I’ve lived in MD my whole life and spent the first year and a half of college at Johns Hopkins Homewood campus. The following semester I embarked on a journey around the world with a program called Semester at sea: 650 college students, 100 days, 12 credits, 9 countries, 1 cruise ship, and a life-changing experience. I am now in my senior year at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and can’t wait to get out there in the “real world.” I hope to move out to the west coast after graduation and pursue emergency/critical care nursing. I have no idea what the future holds for me, but somewhere in there will most likely be a masters in nursing and possibly a doctorate.

While I personally don’t know anyone with cancer, there are those in my life who have overcome obstacles just as great. I am dedicating my ride to my grandparents, Jim and Barbara, who despite their own mountains to cross have led completely self-less lives; to my mother, Kathleen, who has undergone the most amazing transformation in the past 6 years and of whom I am so proud; and to that someone special…you know who you are.
