Day 10 (88 miles) La Grange, IN to Michi
On the floor of LaGrange’s high school gym, we snoozed through several bells for morning classes before waking up. We ate the usual cereal and bagels and heard an unusual story from a handyman (about his young son biking 50 miles to grandma’s house and falling asleep on the lawn immediately upon arrival). After biking several circles in front of the driver’s-ed car, we started pedaling toward Michigan City.

The ride was reasonably flat and easy, though the wind was sometimes a challenge. Gary gave very precise directions throughout the day, including mileage reports accurate to the tenth of a mile. David S. provided lunch under some trees in front of a veterinary clinic. He found some really good orange punch mix - much better than Tang!

We all made it safely to the YMCA, though Blair took a nice fall on some railroad tracks right outside Michigan City. While we waited for the YMCA’s night manager to arrive, Kelly cleaned up Blair’s battle wounds, David S. read the instructions for his new massager, and we all began to notice the mosquitoes and other bugs. Eventually, someone from the local paper began taking pictures of us, though she was disappointed by our lack of movement and energy. A few of us entertained her with a squirt gun fight - anything for our public.

Eventually we showered and then ate pizza while watching World Cup soccer in the YMCA’s nursery. A few of the guys found a scale that measured percent body fat and produced detailed body composition printouts. A twenty-year-old male in our group has 8% body fat…I suspect Thayer.
