Day 22 (Day off) Kansas City, MO
Another day off and what a beaut! Mad chill in general, but I guess that’s what a good nights sleep does to ya. Personally, I almost forgot that those existed. Most of us ended up sleeping in our hot beds till noon (minus an early morning transfer down four floors. Even though it was pretty funny to see 24 zombies dragging sleeping bags to new rooms… Besides this minor setback, it was smooth sailing on in. Around 2 we split into 2 groups: one crew ended up going uptown to use the Internet at a library and find a bike shop, while the other (cooler) group went downtown to hang. Interestingly, Dave and I again found the bike shop and again Wylie was doomed to go without one until we gave him a call. After the bike shop escapades (they were great and gave us awesome discounts!), it was more illin’ time in the downtown. Oddly, it had a very New York 5th Ave feel to it if the Spanish had built the area and replaced each coffee shop with a bank and added a few hundred fountains. Don’t try to make too much sense of that, it doesn’t even make sense in person.

Dinner was odd. Kelly and I drove around to find food and ended up getting two Outback appetizers, two TGI Friday’s appetizers and lots of burgers from a steakhouse near the hotel. Only bummer was the total lack of veggy food the whole day. But I get the feeling that the word “vegetarian” is not something spoken very often out here. I wonder if there’s a law against it, we are in cow country after all….
