Beautiful Boulder
Our day off in Boulder began with a melodious rise of hard rock and the Beatles at 8 a.m. We hurriedly moved our things to the patio for the day and had a meeting there. Half of us went to the Front Range Community College in Longmont in the morning; the other half went in the afternoon. I went to breakfast at Denny's with Babak, Dan and Drew. We continued on our way with a new name for our team: "Team Fatty Fat."

At around 11 a.m., we shuttled over to the community college to hand out materials on early cancer detection at the Cancer Awareness Day that the college was hosting. A masseuse was in attendance, so some of us got free massages (oh-la-la!) Later on in the day, we had our bikes serviced at High Gear Cyclery in Longmont. Buzz and his crew donated the labor to put new chains on all our bikes. Trip veterans Travis and Rajeev insisted that we needed this done before hitting the Rockies and the rest of the West. Also in preparation for the hard days ahead, we stocked up on groceries big time.

We had dinner at Louise Brown's house. Louise, who's John's roommate's mother, very kindly cooked up a feast for us. It was our first home-cooked meal since St. Louis! Yum!

We returned to the East Boulder Community Center, where we enjoyed a beautiful sunset, while contemplating what challenges the Rockies posed for us the next day. The mountains' ominous silhouettes stared us down the rest of the evening.
