Biking through Glenwood Canyon
The day began with an eight mile stretch of backtracking. It was mostly uphill but relatively scenic. We then turned onto a dirt road and followed the Colorado River. It was not too bad, except for one small stretch where we got covered in mud. We then got onto one of the most scenic bike paths I've ever seen. It continued to follow the Colorado River through Glenwood Canyon. The bike path brought us to Glenwood Springs where we ate lunch. Lunch ended up being relatively late and long that day, with many of us leaving past 3 p.m.

We anticipated a difficult ride in the afternoon. Last year's riders, Rajeev and Travis, recalled strong headwinds on the upcoming stretch. Luckily, the ride after lunch wasn't as strenuous as we'd expected. It was a gradual uphill, but not enough to make a big difference. When we pulled into the beautiful town of Redstone, we were all quite relieved. That night, we visited some hot springs a few miles outside of town. They weren't adequate for bathing, but they were still nice to see anyway. We slept in the only church in town and prepared for the next day's ride.
