In INdiana
Lagrange, IN to Michigan City, IN

Today’s ride started from Lakeland High School in Lagrange, Indiana and cut through a corner of Michigan to end back in Indiana (Michigan City) about 100 miles later. Although most people’s legs were pretty tired from yesterday’s long ride, we all managed to make it through the day and enjoy the ride. The route was enjoyable. Most of the morning we were riding through some Amish countryside, where we passed several horse drawn carriages as well as one Amish woman about our age on a bike! Sumeet managed to get a McDonalds lunch donated to us (as well as the use of their restaurant), which came just in time to dry us off from a brief pre-lunch rain shower.

After lunch, we got a free taste of prairie winds – some of us nearly got blown off the road! Everyone finished in good time to go to Mt. Baldy at the Indiana Dunes Lakeshore before dinner to take a cold dip in Lake Michigan and enjoy an amazing view. We could even see Chicago in the distance from the beach! Although no one really wanted to leave the beach because it was so beautiful, we were glad we did when we got to Trinity Episcopal Church and had a very warm welcome and a great spaghetti dinner.

After talking to some of the congregation there for a while and meeting some really inspiring people (in particular, the cook, Jean, whose daughter Vicki, we are dedicating tomorrow’s ride to), we were give a tour of the impressively beautiful and expansive church and its catacombs. We ended the night with our group’s first “powwow” to trade experiences and thoughts from the trip so far (overwhelmingly good ones of course!)
