Marching by the Michigan Mile
Wahoo! This is our first day off with no responsibilities -- No bikes and we are ready for it. We set off in the morning with some people doing some laundry (I personally didn't - opting to go from Cleveland to Topeka without). After that we went down to the Lincoln Park and split up. Sam and Sumeet pursued donations. They secured free movie tickets and a terrific meal at the Wild Ginger Restaurant. But I'll tell you about my day. A group of us decided to take a ride on the Chicago subway and then we went to the museum district by the lake. We went into the Natural History museum. The best part was an awesome T Rex skeleton named "Sue." Absolutely stunning. By the time we got out of there we had totally bonked (not enough energy), so Drew Courtney, Emily, Pat, Priscilla and I cruised around for some munchies. We found ourselves at the Blue Frog Karaoke Bar at about 7 pm. We didn't leave until nearly one o'clock and many trip members joined us for stirring renditions. We took over this bar, bumping elbows with some of Chicago's craziest 30 - 50 year olds.

Back at the UIC where we were staying, I was lucky enough to meet one of the graduate students just as we were setting off in the morning. She is currently fighting brain cancer very bravely. She is working full time and even aims to bike in next year's Lance Armstrong Cancer Charity Century in Texas! Good luck and please drop us a line!!
