Escalante, UT
Left Capital Reef National Park and arrived in Escalante, UT. Today was perhaps the most difficult ride of the trip, but certainly also one of the most beautiful. With the soothing whoosh from our wheels, the serene wind blowing through our helmets, and the sun shining on our faces, we cruised through Highway 12 and witnessed one of the most beautiful scenery in the United States.
The highlight of our day was when we met our host, Winnie. She is a 88 years old retired high school teacher, and yet she acts like a recent college grad. she has earned 3 masters degrees and is currently working on a PhD on education. She has traveled all over the world and even studied at the University of Hong Kong. Her husband passed away from cancer last year but her vitality and spirit refuses to get her down. Her selflessness is what amazes us the most. At our daily moment of silence, she never mentioned her husband. Rather, she asked us to dedicate our ride to a family whose father is currently fighting cancer. Needless to say, her amazing generosity and passion to help others has been truly inspirational for us all.
