Michigan City, IN
With one century already under our belt, we courageously attacked today’s 94-mile ride together as a team in hot and humid weather. Temperatures today reached over 95 degrees. The scorching heat and rough road conditions caused a small pile up as our very own president of Team Falls A Lot (Weijie) led a part of his riding group to the ground. Fortunately everyone was just fine and the rest of the group showed off their acrobatic skills and flexibility as they jumped over and veered away from the pileup.

For lunch today, we received generous donations from Wal Mart Supercenter, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Burger King in Sturgis, MI! Fully restocked and loaded with 15 pieces of fried chicken, 2 whopper junior meals, turkey breast meat, peanut butter (both crunchy and creamy), marshmallow fluff, pudding, powerade, granola bars, flour tortillas, as well as wheat and white bread, we were ready to conquer route 12 out to Michigan City! Our third water stop was right beside a beautiful lake filled with lily pads and playing children. Our fourth and final water stop of the day was a welcome treat with refreshing milkshakes provided by Steamers in Three Oaks, MI at a greatly discounted price.

The ride ended with a fun and relaxing trip to the beautiful and exotic shore of Lake Michigan. The nice people here at the Trinity Episcopal Church provided us with a wholesome spaghetti dinner and delicious ice-cream with cookies and brownies for desserts. Following dinner, we were surprised with goodie bags filled with body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion that provided much needed aroma therapy after the sweat and toil that the day’s ride had caused. The best part of the goodie bags were foot scrub sticks to remove all the calluses from our heels!

The evening came to a close when Pastor Eugene graciously gave us a tour of the beautiful church built in the early 1900s. The spectacular wood work and stain glass windows were nothing short of impressive. Next time you are in this neck of the woods you should drop in and check out this magnificent piece of architecture, which is quite a sight to see!!
