Clinton, IL
The day at the Kankakee YMCA started off with an early wakeup and a double breakfast; 4K cereal and a meal from McDonalds provided by our generous hosts fueled us up for a century into Clinton. For me, it was to be my first century. For David and a large group of riders, it was to be their first 124 mile day, due to an initial confusion with the directions that took them 12 miles out of their way.
The day was fairly cool, even a little damp after the previous day's downpour. My group started out with a flat in the parking lot, but the rest of the day went smoothly and we rolled into Clinton High School in the late afternoon. After much deserved showers, groups made their way to the WalMart across the street, where Emma started the short-lived trend of purchasing speakers and radios to trick out the bikes for the flats of the Midwest. People went to a Mexican restaurant and Dairy Queen for dinner, and we all went to bed early (after a few games of pickup basketball.)
That night we also painted the vans for the first time, proudly showing where we came from and where we were going.
