The statistics say that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will develop cancer in their lifetimes—it’s enough to make you silent with awe. This is why I’m riding with Hopkins4K. Too often, we’re afraid to talk about cancer, especially when it is facing us and our family or friends.
But if we talk about it, we realize that cancer is not one big daunting scourge but many different battles, many personal stories of different diseases with different risks and outcomes. On this journey and in the months before, I’m going to talk it up and spread the word about the challenges we face in prevention and treatment. I’ll be honored to meet people along the way and carry their stories to spread strength and hope of the cures to come.
Future Goals: I aspire to be a physician who also spends a good amount of time on public health and environmental policy work. Age: 23 Major:
Environmental Health, MHS candidate, JHU Bloomberg School of Public Health
