Riding along Lake Erie
Sandusky, OH to Perrysburg, OH

We had a nice short ride today from Sandusky to Perrysburg along the shore of Lake Erie. I got a pinch flat .8 miles from our lodgings in the middle school which put a bit of a damper on the day. Dave was nice enough to hang back with me and we made excellent time despite the fierce headwinds. After the water stop we all had to bike a bit on a four lane highway. A few miles in, one of the riders hit a piece of firewood on the side of the road and landed on his shoulder. This incident reinforced the group’s commitment to calling out hazards and luckily no-one was hurt.

At our lunch break Sam provided Subway sandwiches, but before we could head off to Perrysburg the clouds opened with 45 minutes of good Midwestern fain and thunder. After the storm the wind had died down, so some groups made a 27 mph average the remaining miles to Perrysburg. We are staying with Rajeev’s cousins, and they brought out platters of mangoes, chicken-on-a-stick, fried cheese, and delicious veggie samosas. MMMMM!

Most of us cleaned the bikes on the front lawn before dinner and got cleaned up by 6:30. We had another full-on meal of chicken, potatoes, sweet rice and more. After dinner some of us went out to a Laundromat for a much needed round of laundry and Sam came back with the biggest bag of bagels the universe has ever seen…dozens and dozens of the beasts. Tomorrow we reach Indiana and our first century mark!
