DAY OFF
July 5th 2005

It's hard to get used to waking up and not sweating but up here in the rockies, it's pretty chilly in the morning. I woke up pretty early for a day off and decided to clean my bike. It felt like fall outside. After cleaning a bunch of us headed over to the laundromat to do more of the typical day off activities. Since I don't have cell phone service in Grand Lake, I also bought a calling card.

After lunch I took a really nice nap outside in the yard of the church. By the afternoon everyone was in cleaning mode; working on bikes or the vans. The vans really needed a thorough cleaning and Nisha and Dave took them to the next town to get them vacumed. They were accompanied by a buch of riders who needed some work done on their bikes. They ended up at Totally Wired Cyclry in Fraser, CO. Everyone raved about this bike shop. All the repairs were made and the even gave us 25 water bottles!

Travis, our 4K verteran suggested that we go on a hike to a waterfall on the other side of the lake. So Steve, Mark, JC, Travis and I headed out to Adam's Falls with the intent to swim in the stream of water coming from the falls which was supposed to be icy cold since it was glacial run-off. The walk up to the falls was nice except walking on streets feels so slow when we are used to biking. When we arrived at the falls we had to look for a place to jump in and then it took us a couple attempts to actually put our bodies into the icy cold water. Travis, Steve and I actually went in and JC and Mark took some really funny pictures of us. We had been showering at a local campground while sleeping at the church but we needed to shower before 5pm so when Steve and I realized that it was nearly 4:30 we decided to run home so that we could make it in time for the showers. When we made back to the church, the vans weren't back from the bike shop yet so we had to bike to the campground. We called it our mini triathalon. I really needed to shower because I seem to have ran into some poison ivy in the past couple of days.

Dinner was our first experience cooking for ourselves. Franca, Sandra and JC did a great job making spaghetti and meat sauce for everyone. We watched In Good Company together after dinner and called it an early night. Tomorrow is supposed to be the easiest day of the trip and I have heard rumors that we might have a scavenger hunt to complete during the ride. I can't wait to see those pictures.
