The team was surprised this morning by 400 donuts! Yes 400! Last night, Olivia and I took a drive to Rite Aid to restock our First Aid kit, and we figured we might as well look for donations for breakfast. We stumbled upon a donut shop, where a delightful girl named Eve was working the night shift. Eve told us that if we wanted to come back after 11:00, she could give us all the donuts that haven’t been sold because they get thrown out anyway. Well that’s a no-brainer! We decided to wait because 400 donuts would go a long way with 4Kers. We were rationed 16 donuts each, but I think Derick ate the most this morning with 6. We hardly put a dent in the supply. I have a feeling these donuts will be a staple at water stops for the next several days. Thanks Eve!

The ride out of Cleveland was a little chilly. It was cool to ride through the downtown area right next to the baseball stadium. Once we were out of the city, we followed a gorgeous route along Lake Erie past all these upscale houses. The lake was so huge it seemed as though it were an ocean! As we followed the lake, we were thankful that there were no more hills!! Ohio ROCKS! Three water stops and 72 donuts later, we coasted into the middle school in Sandusky feeling good about ourselves.

After we unloaded all of our gear into the gymnasium, we hit the showers, but were distracted by a swimming pool next to the locker rooms. 4Kers love swimming pools. This one even came equipped with water polo goals, which we set up on opposite ends of the pool. The guys spent the next hour and a half in an intense contest of multiple ball full contact water polo. It sounded like we were in the middle of a naval battle. Every once in a while, some 4K girls would walk out of the locker room with the intention of swimming, but quickly changed their mind and settled with a simple shower.

After biking 70 miles and playing full contact water polo, we had worked up an appetite! The principal of the school has a tradition of preparing us fish that he himself caught. We were very appreciative for the meal provided by the principal and the art teacher and Bobby Good, and were happy to eat real food besides donuts for a change. After dinner, some of us went to the famous amusement park Cedar Point, while others took a stroll to see the sunset over the lake. After the sunset we went to a local bar for karaoke night, and 6 of us guys sang “Piano Man,” which was a fun way to end a great day.
