Lagrange, IN
Mt, zion church

Chris Miller – host

This morning we left Fayette, Ohio to head to Lagrange, Indiana. Our hosts for the evening would be the Mt. Zion Church with Chris Miller helping us out with all out arrangements. Early in the day we headed north and entered our fourth state, Michigan. Unfortunately, in what seems to be a continuing theme, there was no state sign for Michigan. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the empty roads and gentle rolling hills Michigan had to offer before entering our fifth state, Indiana (which did have a state sign). Upon arriving in Lagrange, we learned that we would not in fact be staying at the church, but at a nearby summer camp, Lutherwald. All riders were overjoyed that the afternoon and evening would be spent on the banks of a lake with swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and volleyball to entertain us. In addition, several turtles were spotted and even caught in the lake. It was a very nice gesture from our hosts and we appreciated their help in setting up the stay very much. I think many of the riders would agree that it was one of the most fun stops we have had on the trip so far. That evening we ate sloppy joe’s with the counselors from the camp who had recently arrived to begin preparing for the real campers who would be coming in about a week. That night, thunderstorms kept some of us awake while others slept peacefully after a tiring day of biking and swimming. The morning brought breakfast with the counselors and wet clothes left outside in the rain to dry the previous night. I was also looking forward to our next destination, Michigan City, which we departed for after our moment of silence.

It’s a good ride when you travel through three states in one day. Although we never passed any state signs, it was still a good feeling to know that at some point we caught a glimpse of Michigan before entering Indiana. It’s hard to believe how far we’ve gone.
