Today was the beginning of our journey, the day we’d been waiting for since September. We had a great sendoff thanks to the many family, friends, and supporters who came out to see us off! The day began at the school with a few words of encouragement from a couple of our sponsors and beneficiaries. Next it was off to the Inner Harbor for the ceremonial dipping of our back tires into the water and moment of silence for the people battling cancer at the Baltimore Hope Lodge. And then finally, we were off!

For several of us this was the first time we had ever biked this much in one day, 72 miles! At first it seemed intimidating, but soon each group found their rhythm. We biked out of the city and then through the rolling hills of Maryland. We saw fields, farm animals, shopping centers, and according to Becca, 18 roadkill! All along we had the support of our teammates. We offered words of encouragement as we passed each other on the road, stopped to help when flats occurred, and enjoyed great water and lunch stops thanks to old 4Kers who came out to show their support for the 2007 team! Some hills were tough, the day was long, but most of all it was fun! Getting to that first state sign saying Welcome to Pennsylvania was amazing! Then we got to enjoyed hot showers and a great dinner thanks to our wonderful hosts in Waynesboro.

Thank you again to everyone who came out to see us depart on this awesome adventure!

Where are we going? SAN FRANCISCO!!!!
